Saffire, Jazz in June 2008

From the President's Desk Title
On behalf of the Board of Directors, we are very excited to have celebrated our 25th Annual Jazz in June Festival in 2008. What a milestone.. Wow! A big "Congratulations" and "Thank You" goes out to all of our patrons, Legacy founders, donors, supporters, friends and volunteers. With your help, we'll continue to make Jazz in June a great festival for the Norman community. I also want to give a special thanks to those select donors who helped us create and fund the Jazz in June Legacy Endowment over the past two years. Personally, I'm very proud of the fact that our supporters embrace the idea of funding Jazz in June concerts in perpetuity for future generations to enjoy. In fact, I look forward to celebrating Jazz in June's Golden anniversary, twenty-five years from now when I'm 61, with my friends and family and then catching a movie after the concert using my senior discount!.
Warmest regards,
Carlton W. Dimery, President
Financial Report
By Karen Holp, Treasurer

Jazz in June has always looked to a variety of sources for funding the festival so that the concerts, the clinics and the jam sessions would be free for everyone to attend. The board carefully monitors both income and expenses in order to keep Jazz in June on an even keel and positioned for the future. So in this initial newsletter, here's an overview of Jazz in June's financial health...

What it Takes
From the Development Office
Norman H. Hammon,
Director of Development

Each June we all marvel at the Jazz in June concerts. As I walk amoung our audience people are so complimentary and appreciative of the acts we bring to town each summer. Those same people are often amazed when I answer some of their questions about how Jazz in June comes about each year...

Note News
By Jim Johnson

I've often wondered who needs to actually buy calendars. I can't recall ever having to'buy' a calendar... Then again, I'm not particular and have even come to appreciate (i.e.use) the occasional coupon and/or virtual product catalogue found on my annual 'freebie'date-keepers. Maybe it's just the business I'm in...Regardless of your situation, I have some dates you'll want to pencil in your wall calendar or enter into your PDA:

March 6th + June 25, 26, & 27th.

March 6th is important because it is the day we will formally announce this year's lineup(drum-roll here). Of course, June 25-27th marks this year's Jazz In June festival (raucous applause here).

Now, I realize your level of excitement may be slightly tempered by the fact that...well, we haven't yet announced who will be playing this year's festival (drum-roll here). But, I can tell you that this year's lineup reflects the best of both traditional and contemporary Jazz & Blues sounds/styles.

Blues fans will be treated to some roadhouse rockin' from one of Oklahoma's rising Blues acts along with a veteran West Coast act making his very first venture into our territory. You will not be disappointed!

For our Jazz lovers we plan to showcase two very talented instrumentalists from right here in Oklahoma: a veteran Saxophonist and young guitar whiz-kid (Ooops, I may have said too much, already). Jazz In June will also present a masterful stride piano practitioner and, as our festival headliner, a gentleman who's become one of contemporary Jazz's go-to producers... and one who's own playing will slap such a groove on you that you won't ever forget it (raucous applause here)!!

Are you starting to get even more excited? Good. In future e-newsletters we will divulge more... meanwhile, mark those dates and we'll look forward to seeing you at Jazz In June.
